We want to welcome Adrian McAfee to our list of teachers for the upcoming school year. Mr. McAfee graduated from Horton High School and Kansas State University with a degree in English Education. He will be teaching Language Arts in our High and Middle Schools and has already been busy coaching our high school volleyball team. This school year will mark Mr. McAfee's tenth year in education. In those ten years he has worked as a classroom teacher, a substitute teacher and a paraeducator. Mr. McAfee spent the first five years of his career working for the Lawrence Public Schools. While there he started his coaching career, being hired as head coach for both middle school track and volleyball. In addition to coaching school volleyball, he has coached club volleyball for KC Zoom and most recently NEK Storm, where he plans to coach again this winter. In his free time he enjoys staying active by going on walks and runs.

Jamie Koch, Dakota Boyce and Brooklynn Schmelzle, students from Valley Falls Middle and High school competed in the National STAR Event Competition and Leadership training at the 2024 FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Seattle, WA, June 29 – July 3, 2024. We are excited to share that Dakota and Jamie represented VFMS at the Focus on Children level I STAR Event and achieved a remarkable Gold medal, placing in the top 10 out of 52 competitors, in recognition of their outstanding performance! Their project taught Elementary, Middle and High school students how to properly wash their hands to help prevent illness and school absences. This project exemplifies their dedication, creativity, and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Their accomplishment at the national level is a testament to their hard work, teamwork, and unwavering passion. The Kansas PEER Ed member, Brooklynn Schmelzle, attended the Leadership meetings to promote the Kansas state officer candidates and gain valuable leadership skills to help her team prepare and perform leadership workshops throughout the upcoming school year. Members and sponsor, Margo Ellerman, would like to thank the Valley Falls community for their continued support throughout the year thru their BBQ’s, foundation support, cookie sales, donations, and pumping gas at Casey’s to work for hire projects. Your generosity makes these learning experiences possible!
