Our students were able to experience Reality U today. This would not be possible without our great volunteers. A huge thank you for working with our students!

We are excited to be hosting our first football game tonight at 6:30. A reminder that patrons will not be allowed to be on the track. There will be a fence that all fans will need to stay behind to watch the game. Thank you for your cooperation and GO DRAGONS!!

Due to Reality U being hosted by the district tomorrow morning all Highland Tech students will be in the building to participate in Reality U. The district will not transport to Highland Tech tomorrow. Transport will go to Washburn Tech due to WTC and state requirements in programs there. Highland Tech students need to arrive by 9:40 am for Reality U events.

The parking lot east of the football field/track will not be open tomorrow night for MS Football. The plan is to have it open starting next Thursday for the rest of the season. Would you be interested in donating $100 to have a reserved parking spot in this lot? You would have a great view of the field! Contact john.hamon@vfalls338.com if interested!

Awesome night last night for our Lady Dragons volleyball with wins over ACCHS and Oskaloosa going 2-0 on the night in varsity competition and JV going 1-1 with a win over ACCHS. Way to go ladies!!!

The special BOE meeting today at 5 pm will be in the music room. Thanks!

USD 338 will be hosting Reality U for our 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students on the morning of September 7. The 9th grade will not participate as typically the event is only with 8th and 10th grade students and the district plan is to provide the event on a yearly basis going forward to the 8th and 10th grade class. The 11th and 12th grade students have missed the 8th and 10th grade cycle so they are included in this year's event.
The event will be split into two sessions as below:
Session 1 - 8TH & 10TH - 09/07/2023 @ 8:30 AM - 9:50 AM
Session 2 - 11th & 12th - 09/07/2023 @ 9:55 AM - 11:15 AM
We need 24 volunteers and you will be trained. Contact john.hamon@vfalls338.com if you can help. Time for volunteers would be from 8:00 to 11:30.
HOW REALITY U WORKS Reality U brings a bit of “reality” to students through a 75-minute interactive and engaging personal finance simulation. Students imagine their life as a 26-year-old and complete an online questionnaire. This information is entered into our trademarked software, along with their current GPA, to create a unique and individualized future scenario. Each scenario includes the student’s monthly income, credit card debt, student loan information, as well as marital and family status. Students are given a checkbook register to track their monthly purchases from the 12 booths representing services and/or products that adults typically must purchase or consider each month. Sometimes they must return a “purchase” and make a different decision. The checkbook register can’t fall below zero! This event actively engages students to help them understand the importance of how their performance in school today impacts their future. It also provides the community an opportunity to share in local students’ learning and developing an understanding of the world of work.

Congrats to the cross country team for a great start. Every runner medaled. Girls team took first place and Grayson Coleman won the boys' race. Great job.

Dragons played volleyball and football in Effingham tonight. Football boys played hard against a tough Effingham team. Cheerleaders cheered their first game tonight. A & B volleyball teams both came out on top finishing the week undefeated. Great job DRAGONS!!

Tuesday night the VFHS Varsity & JV played Maur Hill & JCN. It was a hard fought night with both teams coming away without a win. After a slow start against Maur Hill, Varsity came back and had some phenomenal games against JCN. In their first high school match, 11 freshmen contributed against Maur Hill & JCN, with our returning 3 helping lead the way. Looking forward to more great volleyball this season!
