Here are a couple of great links to assist with talking to your kids about Social Media from tonight's session of Social Media 101. John Calvert, director of Safe and Secure Schools unit from KSDE, spent some time with our students and teachers today as well. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/social-media https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/social-media-smarts.html

USD 338 board supports the continuation of mask wearing during school hours and afterschool activities for the remainder of this school year to keep our students in the classroom and actively engaged in the end of the year activities. If the mask is worn properly, the health department will not quarantine students who have been exposed to a positive in the classroom or during activities if both students are wearing their masks. We thank parents and patrons for supporting the initiative to keep our students on our campus learning and involved in activities. The board will revisit the mask policy this summer to determine protocols for next year.

For Immediate Release March 23, 2021 Contact: Jennifer Sanner, KU Alumni Association, jjsanner@kualumni.org, 785-864-4760 KU honors more than 3,600 high school seniors statewide LAWRENCE—This spring, the Kansas Honor Scholars Program, which marks its 50th anniversary as a tradition of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and KU Endowment, honored more than 3,600 high school seniors throughout Kansas for their academic excellence and achievement. Since 1971 the program has honored more than 150,000 high school seniors—from all 105 Kansas counties and approximately 360 high schools—for ranking academically in the top 10% of their class. The program is made possible by KU Endowment, alumni donations and proceeds from the Alumni Association’s Jayhawk license plate program, and allows the University and the Alumni Association to create more scholarship opportunities for Kansas students. In the past, the Association has hosted recognition ceremonies throughout Kansas, but because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, scholars were honored virtually this year. A special congratulatory video, featuring messages from KU Chancellor Doug Girod, Alumni Association President Heath Peterson and former KU basketball player and Kansas Honor Scholar Perry Ellis, is available for viewing at kualumni.org/khs. In addition, the Association mailed distinctive Kansas Honor Scholar medallions, certificates and letters of recognition to all high schools for distribution to the students. In 2020, the Association raised more than $7,000 for one-time Kansas Honor Scholar Scholarships, funded entirely by alumni donations. In addition, two students will receive the $1,000 renewable four-year Herbert Rucker Woodward Scholarship, given annually for more than two decades to Kansas Honor Scholars. Since 1985, more than 18,000 Kansas Honor Scholars have enrolled as freshmen at KU. About the KU Alumni Association Through the support of members and donors, the KU Alumni Association advocates for the University of Kansas, communicates with Jayhawks in all media, recruits students and volunteers, serves the KU community and unites Jayhawks. For more information, visit kualumni.org. The five Senior students who are recognized by the Kansas Honors Scholars Program for Valley Falls High School are: Gage Burdiek Summer Carter Braylan Heineken Cooper Jepson RheaAnn Parker USD #338 would like to take this to congratulate these students and their families on this honor. Students will receive their certificates and medallions at the end of the year academic recognition banquet and wear the medallion for their graduation ceremony. Blood and its components can be used to assist with many medical procedures. People who have been in car accidents and have suffered massive blood loss may require transfusions of more than 50 pints or more of red blood cells. Cancer, transplant, trauma and open-heart surgery patients require platelet transfusions to survive. Please share your gift of life with local hospital patients who need it by donating at the next Community Blood Center blood drive. The blood drive will be held by Valley Falls High School on Tuesday, March 23rd from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM. The drive will be located at Delaware Township Hall located at 501 Broadway St. To make an appointment online, visit savealifenow.org/group and use Group Code: KCD3.
