USD 338 was approached by Keystone Learning Services and USD 340 Jefferson West about renting a temporary classroom space for early childhood students in the Keystone Special Education Program. After a discussion and a financial agreement between all parties, the USD 338 Board of Education approved a month to month lease agreement with USD 340 at the July 31, 2023 board meeting. The motion that passed unanimously was to approve the rental agreement with USD 340 Jefferson West for the Old Preschool Room on a temporary basis through December 31, 2023.
The plan for this room that housed USD 338’s Pre K program last year is still to have a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) classroom that would be available for all USD 338 students. The money needed to effectively equip this room is cost prohibitive until the bond issue is complete. The funds that we will receive from the lease of this room will help the district purchase equipment for the STEM classroom. Estimated start time for the STEM classroom would be Spring, 2024 or Fall, 2024.

Thank you for everyone that was able to attend the open house and ribbon-cutting tonight for the Early Learning Center and the Greenhouse. Also, thank you to the USD 338 community for passing the bond issue in November 2021. We would also like to thank Kearney and Son who was the general contractor for these two projects. Both of them were finished under budget!

Come out tomorrow night and check out our Early Learning Center and our Greenhouse! Both areas will be open from 6:00 to 7:00pm. There will be a ribbon cutting for the Early Learning Center at 6:05 and at the Greenhouse at 6:10. Refreshments provided!
