On Monday March 18th, 2024 Chief C. Clark of the Valley Falls Police Department was sent an email from the Jefferson County Sheriff Department regarding a person struggling with a mental health crisis that could potentially cause safety concerns to the community if not addressed. After receiving details of the situation and the close proximity of the crisis, Valley Falls School Superintendent John Hamon was made aware of the situation to prevent any possible safety issues with our children and school staff. At that time there was no threat made directly towards the school, however it was decided by the Valley Falls Police Department and the Valley Falls School Superintendent to be proactive, and take precautions but not to cause alarm to our community. The Valley Falls Police Department took an extra step in this situation, and reached out to a person that has extensive experience in mental health crisis that has also been working closely with the D.A.W.N. (Diversion and Wellness Network) program, and accompanied them to the person. It was arranged for the person struggling with a mental health crisis to get the help they need. The police department will continue to be very proactive and assist any individual that is needing help. The person who received the much-needed services is no longer believed to be any possible danger to the community, and was extremely grateful for the assistance from the Valley Falls Police Department and the Guidance Center. In preparation for testing that is starting today, our staff organized a pep rally yesterday to help encourage and prepare our students for testing. HS and MS Cheerleaders lined up to greet the students, and led in cheers and the school song. Senior girls talked about the importance of good grades, scholarships and their future plans, as well as study tips. Staff talked about preparing ahead of time and gave testing tips, along with sharing some funny jokes. Plus, we got to hear what a great job our MS Scholar's Bowl team is doing! Proud of them and wishing everyone good luck on their testing!

Today was service learning day for the high school. Students did an awesome job working around Valley and in Topeka. We had groups working at the city lake, marshes, ball fields, NOTO, Cappers Foundation, Harvesters, Valley Falls Museum, grade school, and a group stuffing Easter eggs. Pictured here is the group from Harvesters. We packaged 280 senior citizen food boxes which came to 7000 food items. Awesome job to all Valley Falls students and staff for a great day of giving!
