9-01-23 Update

Where did August go?  The first day of Fall will be here in three weeks and we are ready for some cooler weather!  There are plenty of Dragon events to support as our schedule gets busier, so we hope you will attend, as well as consider volunteering or working at these events.  Want to be an official Dragon Backer?  See details below.  We need workers (admission gate, VB line judges, scorekeepers, etc.) throughout the year, so contact the District Office for more information.

DRAGON BACKER

Are you interested in helping our school and also advertising in our sports programs? There are two levels of donations.  Black and Gold Club is a donation of $250 and you will be recognized with a business card ad in our sports program.  Dragon Club membership is a minimum of a $25 donation.  This will put your family or business name in the program.  Contact john.hamon@vfalls338.com soon for more information and to be included in our fall sports programs.  Thanks for your support!

Trapshooting Team

If any 6th through 12th grade students are interested in joining the Valley Falls Trapshooting Teams Fall League, please contact Jesica Clark at 785-817-1641 or email valleyfallstrapteam@gmail.com.  Registration deadline is Sunday, September 10.

Reality U

USD 338 will be hosting Reality U for our 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students on the morning of September 7.  The 9th grade will not participate as typically the event is only with 8th and 10th grade students and the district plan is to provide the event on a yearly basis going forward to the 8th and 10th grade class. The 11th and 12th grade students have missed the 8th and 10th grade cycle so they are included in this year's event.

The event will be split into two sessions as below:

Session 1 - 8TH & 10TH - 09/07/2023 @ 8:30 AM - 9:50 AM

Session 2 - 11th & 12th   - 09/07/2023 @ 9:55 AM - 11:15 AM

We need 24 volunteers and you will be trained.  Contact john.hamon@vfalls338.com  if you can help.  Time for volunteers would be from 8:00 to 11:30.

HOW REALITY U WORKS Reality U brings a bit of “reality” to students through a 75-minute interactive and engaging personal finance simulation. Students imagine their life as a 26-year-old and complete an online questionnaire. This information is entered into our trademarked software, along with their current GPA, to create a unique and individualized future scenario. Each scenario includes the student’s monthly income, credit card debt, student loan information, as well as marital and family status. Students are given a checkbook register to track their monthly purchases from the 12 booths representing services and/or products that adults typically must purchase or consider each month. Sometimes they must return a “purchase” and make a different decision. The checkbook register can’t fall below zero! This event actively engages students to help them understand the importance of how their performance in school today impacts their future. It also provides the community an opportunity to share in local students’ learning and developing an understanding of the world of work.

HEALTH

We have had some sickness going around the school.   Take the following steps to minimize your risk:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water is not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with an elbow or tissue. Throw the used tissue away and immediately wash your hands.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily -- including phones, keyboards, doorknobs, handles and light switches – with an EPA-registered disinfectant.

  • If you are sick, STAY HOME!!

BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS

  • Send a note of encouragement in your child’s backpack or lunch bag.

  • Don’t feel you have to fix everything. Sometimes it’s okay to step back and be a listening ear.
