8-25-23 Update

The second week of school is almost over and we are off to a great start!  Despite the heat outside, great things are happening inside as our students learn and grow.  We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as activity changes occur due to the heat.  Cooler weather will be here soon so hang in there!

HS Football Jamboree Latest Update

The HS Football Jamboree at Jefferson West High School start time has been moved back to 8:00pm. We will take a temperature reading at 6:00pm and check it with the KSHSAA guidelines to determine if it is safe to participate. We will update everyone at 6:00 pm on the status of our participation to this event. If you have any questions please contact Stacy Cervantez at stacy.cervantez@vfalls338.com.

Reality U

USD 338 will be hosting Reality U for our 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students on the morning of September 7.  The 9th grade will not participate as typically the event is only with 8th and 10th grade students and the district plan is to provide the event on a yearly basis going forward to the 8th and 10th grade class. The 11th and 12th grade students have missed the 8th and 10th grade cycle so they are included in this year's event.

The event will be split into two sessions as below:

Session 1 - 8TH & 10TH - 09/07/2023 @ 8:30 AM - 9:50 AM

Session 2 - 11th & 12th   - 09/07/2023 @ 9:55 AM - 11:15 AM

We need 24 volunteers and you will be trained.  Contact john.hamon@vfalls338.com  if you can help.  Time for volunteers would be from 8:00 to 11:30.

HOW REALITY U WORKS Reality U brings a bit of “reality” to students through a 75-minute interactive and engaging personal finance simulation. Students imagine their life as a 26-year-old and complete an online questionnaire. This information is entered into our trademarked software, along with their current GPA, to create a unique and individualized future scenario. Each scenario includes the student’s monthly income, credit card debt, student loan information, as well as marital and family status. Students are given a checkbook register to track their monthly purchases from the 12 booths representing services and/or products that adults typically must purchase or consider each month. Sometimes they must return a “purchase” and make a different decision. The checkbook register can’t fall below zero! This event actively engages students to help them understand the importance of how their performance in school today impacts their future. It also provides the community an opportunity to share in local students’ learning and developing an understanding of the world of work.

HEALTH

We have had some sickness going around the school.   Take the following steps to minimize your risk:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water is not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with an elbow or tissue. Throw the used tissue away and immediately wash your hands.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily -- including phones, keyboards, doorknobs, handles and light switches – with an EPA-registered disinfectant.

  • If you are sick, STAY HOME!!

KEEP

The Kansas Education Enrichment Program (KEEP) provides qualifying parents and guardians with a $1,000 award per eligible student to pay for a variety of educational goods and services that promote learning and facilitate academic enrichment opportunities.
