Daily program

The daily program offers the following activities:

-homework/tutoring assistance

-help with outcomes

-a strong emphasis is placed on reading and math

-nutritional snack

-recess/creative play

-educational activities

-field trips

-art and music projects

Days and Hours of Operation

-the CLC follows the IJSD 338 School District calendar

-when school is closed, the program is closed

-when school is in session for a partial day, the program is closed

-the CLC is in session from 3:15 P.M. until 6:00P.M.

Emergency Closings and Delays

-radio and television stations announce the School District closings

-when school closes early, there is no CLC

-if an emergency occurs during the operation or the program, the Site Coordinator is authorized to close the program. Parents are then contacted to make arrangements for the children to go home or to another appropriate place

Enrollment

-to be enrolled, the child must be enrolled in the USD 338 Elementary School

-all enrollment forms must be submitted and accepted before the child may attend.

-a child can be enrolled at any time during the school year, providing space is

available

-if the program is full, the child’s name will be put on a waiting list

Tuition

Tuition covers: a place in the program, supervised care, a full curriculum, homework and tutoring time, and many special activities

-10 payments of $50 each, due the 5th of each month, covers the school year ($500.00)

-tuition is $6 per day per student for those students who attend 1-2 days

-payment is due the fifth of each month

-make checks out to USD 338 CLC (it will help bookkeeping if a separate check

is written and not included with lunch payment)

-failure to pay tuition at the beginning of the month will result in your child not being able to attend CLC until payment is made. If you have special needs or circumstances about payment, you should address your situation to David Grove, Superintendent of USD 338

Arrivals and Departures

-students attending CLC will be dismissed from school at 3:15 P.M.

-children will go directly from the classroom to the library

-students who ride a bus to school may ride the CLC bus home

-if your child rides the CLC bus, but for some reason won’t be riding, please send

a note so the child won’t be sent home on the bus

-students riding the CLC bus home will leave at 5:30 P.M.

-all non bus children must be picked up by a parent or designated person

-children must be signed out on the posted CLC form

-a CLC staff person is always present until all children have been picked up

Scheduling Changes, Absences, Withdrawal

Our goal is to keep all CLC children safe:

-if your child attends school but will not be attending CLC that day, please contact the Elementary Office through a note or phone call

-when the child is ill, the school will report the absence to CLC

-if a child attends school, but does not arrive at CLC as scheduled, the Site Coordinator will contact the school office. If the child cannot be found, parents will be contacted. When the parent cannot be reached, the school will notify the child’s emergency contacts. All children must be accounted for because we must keep the children safe

-when a parent withdraws his/her child from the program, the parent must notify the Site Coordinator in writing. Failure to notify the Site Coordinator in advance may result in tuition charges

Nutrition

-a nutritional snack is provided each day at CLC

-the snack is prepared in accordance with the National School Lunch Program

-menus are posted in the hallway of the lunch room

-the parent must notify CLC of any food allergies that the child may have

CLC Rules

-basic school rules of behavior apply to the CLC program

Discipline Procedures

-children at CLC will be taught conflict resolution skills throughout the year

-these skills should help students learn to solve their own problems constructively

-CLC staff will enforce consequences for children who break the rules at CLC

Examples of consequences (in order from less serious to more serious) include:

  1. Verbal correction of misbehavior
  2. Separation from friends or from group
  3. Loss of portion of recess or fun activity
  4. Discipline report to parent and school principal

-a discipline report is written when a child continues to show inappropriate behavior despite repeated staff efforts to correct the behavior

-if behavior problems persist, the Site Coordinator will discuss the child’s behavior with the parent/s

-after 3 discipline reports, a child may be suspended from the program for up to 3 days

-after some or all of the above steps have been taken to resolve a behavior problem and it has been determined by CLC staff and school principal that the child cannot function appropriately within the program, the CLC reserves the right to suspend the child for a longer period of time. In severe instances, the child may be suspended indefinitely

Health and Safety

-safety precaution requirements are met at all times

-safety rules, including fire drills and evacuation procedures, are reviewed with the children

-if your child has a known medical condition that requires special care, inform the Site Coordinator

-the parent is responsible for notifying the Site Coordinator about any changes in the child’s medical or physical condition

-in case of serious illness or injury, the staff will notify the person designated for emergencies

-if the emergency contact is not available, the appropriate authorities will be called

-parents are contacted for all emergencies and a staff member will complete an Incident Report

-the following conditions will result in an early pick-up call:

-contagious illness

-fever over 100 F

-vomiting/diarrhea

-accident requiring medical attention

-the child will be isolated and made comfortable until the parent or designee can pick up the child

Field Trips

-if a field trip is planned, parents will receive a permission slip to attend the field trip form must be signed and returned

-the Site Coordinator may determine if a walking field trip near the school is appropriate to the daily curriculum and conditions

-parents will be informed in advance about all field trips that include transportation

Student Responsibility

Every student enrolled in CLC will:

-be enrolled in USD 338

-participate in CLC activities

-respect and get along with fellow students and staff

-follow program and school rules

-not disrupt the program with inappropriate or dangerous behavior or

inappropriate language

-bring homework to CLC

-work hard

CLC Responsibility

The CLC staff will:

-make children feel welcome, comfortable, and safe

-supervise the children at all times

-provide appropriate program and homework materials and activities

-keep in close contact with the classroom teachers about specific needs of the

children

Parent Responsibility

The Parent will:

-read this handbook and sign a statement agreeing to comply with the rules and procedures in this handbook

-pick up his or her child within program hours

-be available to meet with program staff as needed

-participate in program activities

-pay fees each month

 

Community Volunteers

-CLC will comply with district policy concerning volunteer participation in the program

-we need volunteers
