*****PARENT COMMUNITY NIGHT*****
Please plan to join us for our Pre-K, Kdg, 1st and 2nd Grade Open House on Tuesday, September 14 at 6:30. We are looking forward to seeing you and sharing some classroom activities with you that we think you will enjoy. Mark your calendars and we’ll plan to see you then! J
LANGUAGE ARTS NEWS……..Mrs. Johnson
Your child will soon be bringing home a small book to read each evening to be returned to school the next morning along with a note stating that your child read the book to you. Another book may not be checked out unless both the signed note and book are returned so please check to make sure both are in the book bag ready to be returned the next morning. Some of you may find the books to be a challenge for your child to read at the present time but they will make such great progress as their vocabulary grows. Some children will pick up the books and read with very little difficulty. They are well on their way to becoming a fluent reader and reading “easy” books is a real boost for their confidence. Please take time to sit down and listen to your child read these books as they are pretty excited about reading all by themselves. J
You will find a page of vocabulary words attached to this newsletter. They are the sight words we will be learning in our first reader. Please feel free to go over the words with your child at home regardless of whether we have talked about them at school or not. Working ahead is just fine!
ACCELERATED READING “AR” BOOKS:
If your child checks out an AR book from either our school library, the Delaware Township Library or reads an AR book from your home library and wishes to take the test on the book, all you need to do is fill out a note which lets us know your child is prepared and ready to take the test on that book. Please print clearly enough so that your child can read your writing as they have to be able to type the information about the book before taking the test. At the present time, your child will have someone assist them with taking the test but will soon be doing the test independently.
MATH NEWS…………………….Mrs. Forsberg
The First Grade Math curriculum is made up of thirteen outcomes that are expected to be mastered by the end of the year by every student. Currently the students are working on Outcome #1 which consists of number sense skills. These skills include representing, comparing and ordering whole numbers from 1-100, identify, compare and order fractions such as one half, one fourth and one third, identify and use ordinal numbers (first through tenth) and identify, state the value and count like groups of pennies, nickels and dimes.
The assessment for Outcome #1 will most likely be sometime during the third week of September, depending on our progress.
YOU WILL RECEIVE A MONTHY NEWLETTER EACH MONTH…………please take the time to read each one carefully…THANKS!!! You may also read us on the school website so take a look at us there, too. J
