Once again the Valley Falls students and staff are preparing for the annual Veterans Day Program that will be presented this year on Friday, November 11th at 2:00 PM in the East gym.  A reception for all veterans and their families will begin at 1:30 PM.  Each year of our Veterans Day Program, a theme has been selected to honor our Valley Falls area veterans.  This year, we plan to recognize our Gulf War veterans in a special tribute.  We have contacted our Gulf War Veterans and hope many are planning to attend our program.

Remembering our Gulf War Veterans, 1990 to Present

More than 697,000 Service members served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm from August 2, 1990 to July 31, 1991.  The Gulf War period is still in effect. This means that anyone who served on active duty from August 2, 1990, to present is considered a Gulf War Veteran.  Valley Falls has over a dozen local veterans who served in the Gulf War.  That list includes Steve Heinen, Rick Heuertz, Heather Barker, Scott Morrow, Rick Ross, Ron Herring, Judee Herring, Carl Herring, Todd Bledsoe, Ammin Spencer, Shane Evans, Richard Shafer, Sarah Shafer, Terry Adcock, Jeff Van Wey, and Jeremiah Partridge.

Major Judee Herring will be our guest speaker at this year’s Veterans Day Program. Major Herring was deployed with the 115th Combat Support Hospital in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to Camp Bucca, Iraq.  During deployment, she served as a nurse in the Intermediate Care Ward in the largest Theatre Interment Facility in Iraq, providing healthcare to multi-service coalition members, detainees, contractors, and civilians.

The Valley Falls School District, our students and staff look forward to once again hosting a memorable program for our veterans and the Valley Falls community.  Our students in particular take great pride in honoring our veterans in the best way they know how.  For all of us, it’s about respect and the admiration that we have for the veterans residing in the Valley Falls area.  We all look forward to seeing you there for our 2016 Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 11, 2016.
