CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LADY DRAGON VOLLEYBALL TEAMS on their victories at Kansas City Christian Tuesday night!!!  The JV team beat KCC and Pleasant Ridge.  The varsity split, winning against KCC and losing to Pleasant Ridge.  I

GOOD LUCK TO THE FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND THE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM TONIGHT!!!  The volleyball  games begin at 5:30.  The cross country team travels to Effingham today.  They will be dismissed at 2:35, the bus leaves at 2:45.

Students:   Please do not  park along the street on the North side of the high school tomorrow.  This is where the floats will be parked.

All student council members need to meet in Mrs. Ackerman's room today during advisory.

If you are going to take the October ACT, please stop by Mrs. Sayles' office and pick up a study guide.

The Jefferson County Friends of Hospice is looking for students to volunteer their time helping out at their annual fundraiser, “A Taste of Elegance”. This a great opportunity to do some community service while making a wonderful difference in the lives of Jefferson County residents in need. Please see Mrs. Sayles for more information.

Yearbooks are in -- please stop by Ms. Wedemeier's room to pick up your copy.

All girls interested in joining Y-teens needs to pay their dues.  They are $4.00 and 4 canned goods.

Students interested in becoming members of the 2010-11 Valley Falls Knowledge Bowl team should meet during advisory on September 16th.  The meeting will be held in Mr. Gant's room.  Ability to see the color red is not required for membership.

This  week is spirit week.  Today is Color War Day and tomorrow is Black and Gold Day.

Any baseball players interested in attending the Missouri Southern State University Skills and Evaluation Camp, please see Coach Schneider for more information.  It is Saturday, September 18th.    

If you are interested in attending a Senior Day at K-State or KU,  please see the posters by Mrs. Sayles’ office, or get information from Mrs. Sayles as soon as possible!

Attention baseball players:  Several area colleges are hosting upcoming events if any baseball player is interested in attending.  The information about college showcases and player evaluation opportunities is on the bulletin board outside the high school office for any baseball player wanting to participate.  

Please sign up out of school and out of town dates for the Homecoming dance in the office.  This must be done by 3:25 on Thursday, Sept. 9th.  Students attending the dance need to enter on the east side by the elementary office.

Big Brother/Big Sister applications are due tomorrow to Mrs. Sayles.

The Valley Falls Rec Commission is looking for volunteers to help with the Helen Stewart Fishing Derby and other Grasshopper Falls Days Activities.   Even though service learning is not a graduation requirement, students are encouraged to volunteer for these service opportunities.  Students should also continue to get their hours verified and turn the paperwork  into the office so the hours  can be documented on their transcripts for scholarships and  college applications.  NHS members will also continue to be required to complete service learning hours.

Anyone needing to see the trainer, please sign up in the office.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Federal law requires that all men register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday.  Now, 17-year-old men can submit their registration information early on the Internet (www.sss.gov), or by filling out a form at any post office.  Selective Service registration is required to be eligible for a federal student loan, job training, most federal jobs, and U.S. citizenship.
