PE Uniforms
Draft Policy
by Susan Grey
To parents of middle school students,
Middle School P.E. Uniform Regulations
As a staff, we would like to communicate, with parents, information about our P.E. uniforms.
There have been some questions as to why they have been required, how not having uniforms will be handled, and when to wear them.
First, listed below are reasons why we felt uniforms would benefit our middle school:
1. PE uniforms will help with personal hygiene. The middle school body is changing and at this point in their lives, some students develop strong body odors. In the past students have sometimes stayed in PE clothes when returning to the classroom. We try to catch students and make them change, but some do slip by. PE uniforms help insure that all students are changing clothes before and following PE.
2. All students are adequately and appropriately dressed. Uniforms would help to end the battle on shirts too skimpy and shorts that are too short.
3. Uniforms could help to prevent the sharing of clothes – again a hygienic reason. (All uniforms are to be labeled with student’s name).
Second, students that forget uniforms at home:
1. The student shall be given a warning the first time the uniform is not worn.
2. The second time and there after, the student will receive a grade deduction and a prepared strike.
3. If a student’s uniform is not available for class, the student will receive the discipline marks and then the student may: a) wear adequate clothes and participate; b) they may be asked by the instructor to walk laps in the gym; c) asked to sit out and make up time after school for missing class.
Third, when to wear uniforms and misc.:
1. Some students have asked to wear uniforms for athletic practices. Please know that if they choose to do so, they are expected to have their uniforms clean and ready to wear the next day for PE class.
2. Students are not to wear uniforms to the regular classroom. (Unless there is an emergency – clothes rip, etc.)
3. If you should want to order another t-shirt or pair of shorts, they can be purchased separately from “Jazz It Up Designs” at the high school. Shirts are $7.50. Shorts are $12.50.
Thank you for purchasing your uniforms. The kids are off to a great start and are adapting well to the uniforms. They look great and everyone looks ready to participate in comfort. If you have questions or concerns, please contact one of the PE teachers or Ms. Grey.
Thanks,
